Tessa had a meeting in Bury St. Edmunds this morning, so we walked Millile around the Abbey Gardens and ruins and on a nice walk in a nature reserve.

Millie is at the end of the lead, but she wouldn't look up for the picture.

Coffe and shortbread at a cafe, and water for Millie.
From Bury, we drove to Melbourn, where Tessa's parents and had a lovely lunch
Then we went to the American Cemetery at Cambridge. Tessa had a memorial placed here for Dennis, Lynn's brother, after he was killed in a training mission just before the Gulf War in 1990. It is one of only two memorials not for Americans killed during WWII. The other is also for an American airman who was married to a British woman, also killed in 1990. It took an act of Congress to permit the memorials
Our tour guide was incredible. He showed us 10 or 12 memorials that illustrated the variety of people buried here--airmen, sailors, Red Cross Workers, nurses, etc. It includes people who died of diseases, accidents, car crashes, as well as those killed in combat. He introduced us to the stone mason behind him, who assured us that he takes very could care of Dennis Wise's memorial. Actually they take good care of all of them--cleaning the stone memorials by hand every day.
The wall of the missing. The bronze rosettes indicate that the remains were found and shipped home to the U. S. for burial--these two within the last few years.
Map of the bases and operations during WWII.
They asked if Lynn wanted to assist in the flag ceremony to lower the American Flag at 4:30.
We helped fold the flag.

It was a lovely. We are now back at Tessa's relaxing.
